MEET OUR TEAM: CARLA, THE WORK ABROAD MANAGER

In the fifth post of the “Meet our Team” series, we introduce Carla, the Work Abroad program Manager at DreamanDo. Read further to find out more about her background and learn which exciting projects she is working on!

Hi Carla! Could you tell us something about yourself and what you do at DreamanDo?

I am from Italy and have lived in several regions across Italy since I was 18 years old. I was attracted by other cultures but was scared to move abroad at a young age because of language barriers. I spent all my free time at university studying and practicing English. I eventually spent six months in Denmark for the Leonardo European project (internships) and learned basic Danish while using English as a working language. Then, I was admitted to University College London (UCL) and moved to the UK in 2015. After ca. Eight years of living and working across five countries (Italy, Denmark, the UK, Malta, United Arab Emirates), I recently moved back to Italy, thanks to the remote revolution era. This is why at Dreamando, I will take care of the work abroad program, starting from an educational perspective and then building things up from there as it evolves. When I had the dream of working abroad, I did not have anyone who could help me with practicalities or share a similar experience, and that was why I felt passionate about the subject and wanted to help people achieve similar dreams.

How did you join DreamanDo?

I believe Instagram’s algorithm suggested Dreamando among my favorites, and then I went to the profile and loved what they were doing. I sent a message asking for a chat, and they immediately replied and scheduled a call. After my call with Ciro, I found a lot of alignment of values and ambition–just what I wanted!

What are some of the things that you love about DreamanDo?

I love Dreamando’s mission to empower determined people to achieve their academic and professional dreams. I also love that we work remotely, and that means attracting the best international talents to join the company and creating an environment where everyone has different expertise and background to share and add value.

What are the goals that you want to reach within this company?

I feel lucky to be in this position to shape such an ambitious project, WorkAbroad, and contribute to the operational efficiency typical of an early-stage start-up. It is exciting, and I am looking to bring value to our customers and guide them through the process of moving and working abroad. It can be scary and a big step in someone’s life, but with bespoke guidance and motivation, everything is possible.

Are there any exciting plans for the Blog?

We are in the process of testing and collecting data to see what is working best to serve different demographics. Stay tuned for the upcoming news!

Do you have any advice for people wanting to study/work abroad?

You will never get there if you do not know where you want to go. Focus on what you want to achieve long term, and think about your “why”: why will you choose a specific (work or study) path?

Then, plan ahead! I can’t emphasize this enough. Depending on what you want to do – studying or working – you need to create a plan and see how long it will take to get you there.

Feel free to check Carla’s LinkedIn and reach out to us with any questions about how to achieve your dreams and goals and if you want to find out more about the Work Abroad program!
