As for life as a university student in Ireland we believe you can only have fun. Except for the slightly disappointing weather, you can enjoy the best beers with your mates in the many pubs that are found on this cheerful island.
If you are interested in a more urban life and are looking for a dynamic metropolis, the capital Dublin is for you. It is home to one of the world’s oldest campuses, Trinity College; where great thinkers of the past have been trained, and which offers various tutoring services.
The only flaw of the city is that the cost of living is quite high and rents can often reach high figures (around 2050€ per month). It is suggested that you check if your university offers dorms at cheaper rates. The Dreamando team is here to help you sort out your living arrangements: we can support you in finding the perfect home for you.
As for public transport, it is efficient and the city is well connected, but being quite expensive many people move by bike. Great way to stay healthy too! Many people on our staff during their study abroad opted to get around through eco-friendly means such as cycling.
Visas and residence permits
If you are an EU citizen you do not need a student visa, if you are from a country outside the EU you must apply for one at least 3 months before your entry into the country. (http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/Study)
Healthcare system
If you are a European citizen you can apply in your country of origin for the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) which will allow you free access to the state health system like any Irish citizen. The Card does not cover special interventions or appointments such as dentalcare.
Living costs
The cost of living is quite high and rents can often require exorbitant amounts. You should check if your university offers accommodation in student dorms at cheaper prices. If you want to save a little on the capital’s expensive public transport just ride a bike! Many Dubliners use bikes to get around Dublin. As the city is mostly flat even the laziest amongst us can get around easily on two wheels!
… Is that all?
Not exactly! This is a guide that contains all the essential information to be able to submit your application to Irish universities, but it would be impossible to enclose in a few paragraphs all the tips and tricks for a successful application.
