5 Tips to 👏🏻A👏🏻C👏🏻E👏🏻 the GMAT Test in 2023!

The new year is here, and it is GMAT season! It is time to test and apply your knowledge to one of the most important tests for the Management sector! In our last post, we presented the GMAT to you and explained a bit about what it entails. Now we will give you five tips to help you ace the GMAT test this year!

1. Get acquainted with the test and its different sections

When asked to complete the IELTS language test without preparation, English speakers often perform worse than international students. Likewise, not knowing what the questions look like and not preparing for the single sections of the GMAT might affect your ability to get a high score. For this reason, we believe that familiarizing yourself with the GMAT structure will give you an upper hand when taking the test, making you feel both ready and confident to ace it (Please refer to our post on the GMAT and its structure for more information).

2. Use official prep material

There are hundreds of websites with GMAT preparation tests and taking them would not be a humane task for anyone. For this reason, we suggest using official material so that you can actually get used to the actual GMAT structure. Taking a look at previous test questions and their trends can also serve as a great prep tool for you, as not only do you acquaint yourself with their structure, but also with the content that often features in them.

3. Identify your weaknesses and work on them

The GMAT test is diverse in content and covers a broad spectrum of subjects. For this reason, familiarizing yourself with the test structure and working on the mock tests will help you locate your weaknesses, leveraging yourself to work on them before test day.

We strongly suggest you pinpoint the areas you struggle with the most and focus your preparation on them; you should not spend too much time studying what is hard, as your main goal is to be prepared for the entire test, and not to overwork yourself by studying for one section only. A good strategy would be spending 60% to 65% of the time tackling your weaknesses and 40% to 35% reinforcing your strengths!

4. Time yourself

Many GMAT exercises could be easily solved with an infinite amount of time. However, you will only have a few minutes per question, so be prepared and time yourself! This also means that if a question is difficult for you, and you feel like you will spend too much time on it, you should skip it and, if necessary, make an educated guess on which answer seems the most logical. It is better to answer more questions than to leave them blank!

5. Trust your preparation

The GMAT does not test your memory, and the syllabus is so vast that a last-minute revision is unlikely to help. Instead of stressing out about remembering everything in 12 hours, trust yourself and your preparation. Allow yourself to rest and enjoy some leisure activities, as a well-rested brain is more likely to remember everything you studied and prepared for!
